Charlotte High School Band Programs
Marching Band is our most visible performing group. We have been extremely successful at competitions, taking Superior ratings at FBA Marching Festival ten out of the last eleven years, and making a Straight Superior six of those seasons.
All incoming freshman band students are expected to participate in Marching Band their first year. According to the CHS curriculum guide, Marching Band is part of the curriculum for Band I and Instrumental Ensemble I. It will remain optional but highly recommended for Band II-IV, Inst. Ens. II-IV, and Jazz students.
Symphonic Band is our premiere performance organization and is comprised of students enrolled in “Instrumental Ensemble I - IV” and "Band I - IV". This ensemble performs at various concerts and festivals throughout the year. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances.
Please note: First year members will be expected to participate in Marching Band as part of their curriculum.
Jazz Band will continue to be by audition only, and all Jazz Band members are required to be in the Jazz Ensemble class. Sorry but there can be no exceptions. Our Jazz Band has established itself as one of the very best in the state. We’ve received Superior ratings at FBA District Festival the past 5 years in a row, and in 2006 got Straight Superior ratings at State Festival, one of a handful of groups statewide to do so.
Eurhythmics I-IV is a co-curricular Guard class, students are required to participate in the Marching Band Auxiliary during 1st semester and Varsity Indoor Guard during the 2nd semester. Entry is by audition only. You must be in the class to be on the team, you must be on the team to pass the class, also note that Guard is a full year commitment.
We have also started up a JV Indoor Guard! Membership is open to any CHS student, it’s completely extra-curricular, and specifically for students who are not currently enrolled in Guard class.
Basketball Pep Band is an after school group that rehearses as needed and performs at select Boys Varsity home games only. This group tends be very spirited, quite loud and uses a lot of blue and yellow face paint.
